2nd Semester MD2- Block 1

I began block 1 of 2nd semester at Windsor. It's very challenging. We take the following courses:

Physiology II
Gross Anatomy II
Histology
Biochemistry and Medical Genetics
USMLE

It's a heavy workload and I'm struggling to keep up, I will be honest and say that I didn't do too well on the first set of block exams other than Anatomy(we covered portions of the head in block 1.) I've been very stressed out that I need to pass these courses. I think I'm going to change my outlook to start thinking about how to approach positivity and strength.

Positive Thinking: I've found that the most important thing for me is positive thinking and hard work. I need to keep myself going. Our professors are alright. I mean, for me it is a challenge because some of them don't speak with a fully understandable, at least to me, accent.

I'm taking today off. I haven't had a break yet this semester. I just want to pass my courses but it is getting tougher and I'm questioning whether I have what it takes.

Last day on the island for MD1

So, I'm going home today. I'm very excited about that. I arrive in Boston at 1230. It's been an interesting time. I will add more later.

PIGS and Block 3 Update

I took the PIGS final which was very nice. It was an open notes exam so that wasn't challenging. I got passing grades on my final 3 blocks and for physiology I did very well. I scored 25 percent out of 30 percent which goes towards our final grade. The total is 100 percent so we will see. The finals are going to be 70 percent of our grade. The cutoff for a pass is 65. I am going to work hard to pass these exams.

Block 3 MD1

We are coming up on block 3 and I'm pretty safe for Physiology but I have to do a lot of work for finals.

Anatomy
I learned for this course, repetition is extremely key. Going over the material 4x drawing it out, etc. For me this works at least.

Embryology
I actually did fairly well and figured out what was the best option for me doing these exercises.

Emotional Health: I'm tired but I'm continuing to go. There have been some people who haven't made my stay here the best but I'm continuing to work harder and harder to worry about myself and do my own studying.

Overall I'm happy. I'll see you at finals time!

Block 1: First 30 Days

Welcome to St. Kitts.

It's almost 2nd block which means another round of Medicine to learn and tests to pass. I really enjoy Physiology right now. I'll break down my subjects into different groups so you can get a feel as to what we're learning:

(our Basic Sciences are broken up into tri-mesters, 3 semesters a year, with one being in the USA or on St. Kitts whichever you choose to study for the Step 1 Exam)

Gross Anatomy MD-1
This course is a ton of memorization. Basically we began with the Upper Limb which covers the Brachial Plexus, Condition like Wrist Drop, Carpal Tunnel, and others. We are now in the Lower Limb for Block 2. This should be an interesting block but I don't enjoy rote memorization at all.

Embryology
So far we have discussed organ formation, chapters 1-7 and are going to work on formation of skin and skull bones. It's been a lot of material. I barely did well on this exam and I'm trying to figure out my study strategies. I really enjoy some of the clinical aspects of this class but it is kindof dry.

Physiology
I passed this exam with a B and I was very happy about that. We are currently working on the Cardiovascular System so it should be exciting. I'm very happy that I'll get a chance to learn more about the CVS and how it works and different conditions relating to heart problems, heart circulation, etc.
